A rare glimpse into Northern Zhou Dynasty (557 - 581 CE) dress, the Chun Xiao 春晓 Spring Dawn Restoration Ruqun set can best be described as romantic, ethereal, and mystical.

Features a wide collared shirt called Yaolan Ru 腰襕襦 with exaggerated bell sleeves, trimmed with ornate brocades. The silk is imprinted with a turtle-shell design, a technique called 龟甲 Gujia.

Take a closer look at the brocades to see tigers, plum blossoms, and various brightly colored geometric patterns.

Typically styled off-shoulder, the Yaolan Ru 腰襕襦 of the Northern Zhou Dynasty are pulled over the skirt, rather than under the skirt much like neighboring kingdoms of this era.

The skirt called Qun 裙 is printed with a 4 diamond pattern and can be tied under the bust for a goddess-like train effect, or over the bust for a shorter hem.
